I386 architecture will be dropped starting with eoan (Ubuntu 19.10)…

The Ubuntu engineering team has reviewed the facts before us and concluded that we should not continue to carry i386 forward as an architecture. Consequently, i386 will not be included as an architecture for the 19.10 release, and we will shortly begin the process of disabling it for the eoan series across Ubuntu infrastructure.
We will not provide 32-bit builds of new upstream versions of libraries

Ubuntu Confirms It's Dropping All 32-bit Support Going Forward - OMG! Ubuntu!

Ubuntu has confirmed plans to drop all support for 32-bit (i386) systems going forward, beginning with the upcoming Ubuntu 19.10 release.
The decision will mean that the distro no longer builds, packages or distributes any 32-bit software, libraries or tools on newer versions of Ubuntu.

To je velká rána zpětné kompatibilitě a zasáhne to především Wine, Proton a Steam.

Vývojář Steamu, Pierre-Loup Griffais, dnes oznámil, že Steam přestane podporovat a doporučovat nové verze Ubuntu.

Novou distribuci ještě hledají.

Ubuntu 19.10 and future releases will not be officially supported by Steam or recommended to our users. We will evaluate ways to minimize breakage for existing users, but will also switch our focus to a different distribution, currently TBD.

Změna zasáhne i derivace Ubuntu, třeba oblíbený Linux Mint.

Vývojář Ubuntu se pokusil v Ubuntu 19.10 spustit několik her z GOGu. Výsledek: 0 ze 6.

Mám Ubuntu i hry z GOGu a úplně tak tristní to není. Sem tam jde něco spustit :-) Nicméně chápu obě strany. Canocial nechce donekonečna podporovat zastaralé 32 bit staré aplikace a knihovny (MS by jistě dokázal o tom vyprávět) což samozřejmě má za důsledek to, že nefungují staré gamesy což je stále ještě gro GOGu. A na druhé straně i ten Steam stále ještě má spousty starých games. Každopádně to Steamu nezávidím. Ubuntu ( jeho deriváty) je přeci jen z pohledu běžného Linux BFU mainstraim a ikdyž existuje hafo dister tak mají miniaturní podíl.
